For those of you who have not had the pleasure of cruising into the harbor of Avalon on Catalina Island, I must tell you, you have missed something quite special. I can see the silouette of the island from my beach where I walk my dog. I used to visit Avalon every summer from the time I was ten until I was married. Barefoot and oiled up I strolled Cresent Ave and paddled out to the boats coming in with tourists. It is on fire now and burning up to the edge of the little island town. All residents have had to evacuate. Weddings, reunions and vacations have been cancelled and I'm afraid the season has started out badly for the residents of this resort town.
